In June 2026, 24 members of the Hereford Guild of Mayor’s Guides enjoyed a busman’s holiday by participating in a city walk through Worcester.

One of the highlights of the walk was visiting the old cells beneath Worcester Guildhall, where we learned about their use as holding cells for prisoners awaiting sentencing or transportation. It was fascinating to explore these hidden areas and hear the stories connected to them. The Guildhall itself has a long history, dating back to the early 18th century, and once served as the city’s centre of justice and administration. (Guildhall Worcester)

Throughout the walk, the guide expertly outlined Worcester’s main historical events and landmarks, bringing the city’s past to life while also explaining how Worcester has evolved into the city it is today. The tour struck a great balance between historical facts, local stories, and insights into modern Worcester.
